Cooling weather. Falling leaves. Bored kids? Read on for some fun and free fall activities for preschoolers and toddlers to keep your kids entertained.

Parents realize that as the Autumn season is upon us and the weather begins turning frigid, in many regions of the U.S. its time to come up with alternative activities for kids, aside from the normal outdoor selections.

While some Fall activities for kids can be weather permitting, our ideas below are all indoor and offer moms a chance to have a blast afternoon with their kids while not overspending in the process.

Fun Fall Activities for Preschoolers and Toddlers

1) Bumper Bowling

Check with a local bowling alley and many will inform you of a half off day or $1/game special, usually during the afternoon hours midweek. Most bowling alleys are slow during the day and need customers, offering specials to take advantage of. Try to get them to include shoe rental as part of the deal as most will do so. Even toddlers and preschoolers can participate in Duckpin or Bumper Bowling and have a lot of fun.

2) Day at the Library

How quickly parents lose track of how much of a good time kids can have at the public library. Most libraries have library storytimes and toddler activities on a weekly basis in the Fall. Even if storytimes are not currently running, toddlers love libraries. Usually loaded with comfy beanbag chairs and puzzles for the youngsters, these types of preschoolers activities usually are a winner and best of all free.

3) Kids Movie Days

Unbeknownst to many moms, many local movie theaters have a day of the week where they offer cheap movies for moms with toddlers and young children only. Usually on a Tuesday or Wednesday during afternoon hours, theaters offer child oriented movie offerings that allow kids to be kids. No worries about being too loud or sitting still. If your child truly wants to watch the movie, this may not be the right thing for you! Usually a nice reprieve for moms but bring your own snacks as they’ll get you on the full priced popcorn and drinks.

4) Attend a Local Hockey Game

If there’s a local ice rink in your region, more than likely there are hockey games going on throughout the Fall season. If your child enjoys sports or just watching other little ones, they’ll love watching other kids playing hockey. Whether its a high school game or just a scrimmage or kids league, its usually free or low in cost. These arenas are usually loud and echo filled so kids’ noise is easily drowned out. Don’t fret about paying too much for a drink or $10 for nachos in these establishments either.

5) Crafts Classes

Call up a local arts and crafts store and see if they have any upcoming events or ‘how to’ classes directed towards kids. Normally these sessions are meant to drum up future business and draw in parents to purchase supplies and thus are free or minimal cost. Sometimes you will need to purchase the supplies used during the course so make sure to choose wisely but it usually ends up in an enjoyable crafts for kids adventure.

Enjoy your Autumn Season!

We hope these fall activities for kids inspire you to do something a little different this Autumn. For more ideas, check out our other posts with activities for spirited kids!

Parents with toddler and preschool age children are noticing the recent increase in local classes and activities offered for their kids.

Parents with toddler and preschool age children are noticing the recent increase in local classes and activities offered for their kids. With this growth comes the need for moms to either be selective in choosing appropriate classes or take time to put aside a chunk of free time to allow their children’s’ participation in the increased offerings. TotActivities.com CEO Jeffrey Roth views a trend toward quantity but not necessarily over quality in the current family environment.

Go online and perform a basic search for ‘toddler classes’ or ‘kids activities’. The amount of available classes and events can be surprising for moms and difficult to sort out. In many cases, these businesses appearing in the search results rely solely on their websites to convince viewers to utilize that business’s service for their kids. Needless to say, the competition online to gain these moms as customers is immense.

In our competitive world, moms demand the best for their kids even from early ages. Many times these moms choose to enroll their children in a number of classes such as tumbling, music learning, arts and crafts and more to enhance their exposure to movement and artistic skills. While this could be difficult to manage for these moms, the increased number of classes and activities along with available online discussions and reviews of these offerings allow moms to not only be selective but also efficient. Having all of this information allows moms to schedule classes and events that mesh into their personal schedules.

Websites including TotActivities.com offer moms a simple option to not only find local activities and classes but also pinpoint their exact locations via Google Maps as well as view other moms’ opinions of those businesses. As Mr. Roth pointed out earlier, parents can choose to have both quantity as well as quality in the activity choices for their kids by utilizing available website tools to bring all of the desired information together in an efficient manner. The internet kids business marketplace is expanding rapidly and moms can greatly benefit from this expansion by keenly utilizing the available free tools and website services to manage their family schedule.

Best of Luck in your Kids Activity Searching!

Many parents may not be aware of it, but the toys their children play with are crucial in a toddlers growth. Everything a toddler does during the first few years of his or her life is fundamental to their developing brains. There are so many fun activities for toddlers that allow your child to grow. They soak up a lot information during this time that it is important for parents to have constructive toys around for their toddlers. If you think about the different toys out there, the majority of them are designed with bright colors, loud noises and various textures. This is because toddlers need to learn the various colors and textures. Having them on toys can help stimulate their brain growth.

Toys that are popular in toddler development to assist in their learning the different textures and shapes are building blocks and stuffed animals. You will want to get building blocks in as many sizes as you can to help your child learn that there can be bigger and smaller objects. Having your child play with rubber balls also is a terrific learning tool because they learn about another shape and how that one functions. At this young stage of their lives, it is imperative to give your child as many different shaped and textured toys as possible. This will help them utilize their imagination when they play.

Musical toys also be a huge part of children’s development. This is critical in the development of emotional intelligence in your toddler. These toys contribute to inspiring their minds through the interesting melodies of the songs. You can achieve this through toys or even through educational television shows. As your toddler gets a bit older, you can move them onto things like puzzles and matching games. This will help connect and create the neuron networks that your toddler needs for the rest of his or her life. Developing their reasoning and logic is an important part of childhood development.

Although it is tempting to get the multitude of computer and television games available, many people think that traditional toys are the top for toddler development. This is because it causes them to sit and play with one thing for a while. With television shows, children can become distracted easier and do not notice the important learning message. Many people believe that toddlers are able to establish listening skills and increase their focus when they play with traditional toys. So next time you purchase your toddler toys, reflect on the learning factor. The fun activities for toddlers are endless.

Spirited children are either easily distracted or intensely focused. Mine is of the first variety 80% of the time, which can make activities pretty short-lived. That can be frustrating for us as parents because it means we have to come up with more educational activities to occupy them. Plus, setting up and cleaning up after activities is annoying.

Luckily, one very obvious thing has helped us make activities for our spirited child last longer. We just pay attention…

If you watch your spirited child’s body language and facial expressions, they will let you know when they are getting bored. Then, you can switch it up a little before they lose interest entirely.

For example, when we play with our Match It Spelling activity, I can tell when my son is just “done” with finding letters. That’s when we start focusing on the pictures on the puzzle pieces. I ask him questions, talk about the object, etc. When he starts getting bored with that, we arrange the completed puzzles on the table or sort pictures into categories, or count…Whatever keeps him interested. We can get an extra 15 minutes out of an activity, just by paying attention to what will keep our spirited child engaged.

Plus, all these little extras help him get more out of the activity. Anything that helps him learn more is a plus in my book!
