It takes lots of patience living with a toddler, especially spirited toddler. The toddler years are the most trying times for parents. Toddlers are busy. They are climbing and jumping and throwing things! This is stressful for parents. It is more stressful if the child is very energetic: doing more than usual toddlers and having longer lasting and more intense tantrums, which makes taking care of them harder. But there are ways to defuse daily battles with toddlers; parents just need to teach their children self-control.

So what should parents do? Parents should let their children know what is coming. Spirited children need events spelled out to them. They can become anxious when they can’t predict what’s coming next. So when it is time to leave the playground, it is recommended that you tell him what you are going to do next. You can tell him or her details like: you’ll go to the car, we’ll drive straight home, find Sis and Dad there, and have spaghetti for dinner.

Parents need to be clear and consistent. Children need security and consistency of clear rules and set limits. Thus, if naptime is after lunch and your child does not want to nap, be firm and confident in enforcing his or her rest period.

Physical contact is also important. Children need connection. So, it is important that you spend time to cuddle with your children or play with them or give them a backrub before bed. Physical contact lets children know that they can trust you to be there for them. This can also help make them become more independent.

Creating a “yes” environment can also help control your children. Parents should let their child pour their own juice, use a fork, and put on his own shoes. It doesn’t matter that it would be a little messier or it takes a little longer. Letting your child do these little things can help increased independence and cooperation. Parents should also ensure that there are no danger spots at home. The more child friendly your home is, the less you’ll be fighting with him or her to keep away from special things and places.

And more importantly, parents should soothe their child’s senses and acknowledge their child’s feelings. Soothing their senses will help wind down when your child’s intensity level starts to rise. You can give your child a warm bath on a cold night, put a cool washcloth on his forehead on a summer afternoon, or let him play with his rubber ducks in the kitchen sink while you’re cooking. Parents should also talk to their toddler and let the child know that he is not the only one who is overcome by difficult emotions sometimes. Remember not to become angry with the child when your perfectly logical explanations don’t result in his quick compliance.

These activities can help you get connected and empathize with your child. It will help your child learn to trust you and become more cooperative with you.

Below are some of my spirited toddler boy’s favorite toys, most of which he got as gifts. In case it isn’t obvious, I prefer toys that have at least some sort of educational angle, and the grandparents are pretty good about respecting this when they buy gifts for my toddler. My thought is…Educational toys can be just as much fun as beeping, tooting, annoying non-educational toys, so he might as well learn something while he plays.

Of course, children are all different, especially the spirited ones. These are just some ideas if you need to get a gift for a toddler boy.

Ohio Art Classic Doodle Sketch

This toddler toy has entertained our son for countless hours on long car trips, when staying in hotels, etc. (Note: I put the stamps in a ziplock baggy and leave them at home.) It is a great way to let them get artistic without the mess and my son loves erasing the screen.

DUPLO My First Farm
(Find out more or buy through Amazon…)

Between gifts and CraigsList.com, I can’t believe how many DUPLO’s my toddler has. Each set is great by itself, but combining sets is when the real fun begins. They are wonderful for the imagination and building skills. My husband, step-son, and I were all big LEGO kids, and now we are raising the next generation.

(Find out more or buy through Amazon…)

I first saw this at a friend’s house. They said, “It is a lot of fun, but now my daughter can escape ANYTHING.” I totally agree, but it is one of my toddler’s favorite toys. It is fantastic for fine motor skills and also introduces numbers and colors.

Fisher-Price Little People Animal Sounds Farm
(Find out more or buy through Amazon…)

Lord help me, but my toddler loves this farm. There are flaps to lift, doors to open, slides to slide, and just about everything makes a sound. We found it used, so ours does not have the pig or the goat…A fact which our toddler points out every time he plays with it. Jeese!

Melissa & Doug Deluxe Wooden 27-Piece Lacing Beads in a Box
(Find out more or buy through Amazon…)

I have to admit, I was a little surprised by how my toddler boy took to this lacing set. He loves stringing the blocks on the cords. I am not complaining though. It really is a wonderful activity for improving fine motor skills. It doesn’t hurt that there are numbers too, so we can work on counting at the same time.

Melissa & Doug Car Carrier
(Find out more or buy through Amazon…)

Have you noticed that I like Melissa & Doug? If you have a toddler boy who likes cars, you might want to combine this car carrier with a simple set of wooden blocks so that you can make buildings and garages. Just a tip…

LeapFrog: Fridge Farm Magnetic Animal Set
(Find out more or buy through Amazon…)

Honestly, we never owned this toy, but two of my friends have it on their refrigerators, and my toddler is enthralled with it every time we visit. It is great for teaching matching and animal sounds, but I like it because it entertains him in the kitchen which is where I always seem to need help distracting my toddler.

Storage is the most important furniture followed by benches and chairs. Tables are also important for your child to have something that he can lean on to paint, color or play. Stools and benches sometimes include storage that makes them exciting and useful at the same time.

Kids enjoy sitting and doing activities on the floor but this doesn’t mean that you will not provide him comfortable place to sit and rest in his playroom. You can find variety of kids’ chairs in furniture stores that you may like and may be appropriate for the playroom. You can also but little benches with storage under it for dual purpose.

Aside from chairs and benches, rockers are also great in playroom. Kids will surely have fun with them. Modern rockers are both good looking and safe. Rockers are usually made of wood since it’s easier to make the rocking motion. It is important to treat wooden rockers for them to last longer and remain sturdy and strong.

Tables are also needed in the playroom. They make drawing and painting easy for your child. Most kid’s tables are sold with matching chairs. It is better to buy chairs and table in set for the playroom since you won’t have to worry if the chairs will properly fit on the table and the colors will match. You can also purchase play tables. These tables big, can be easily cleaned and strong enough to support your child’s weight when he leans on it.

It is not that difficult to find a toy for your 1 year old since there are a lot of toys in the market. In buying toys for your child, always remember that kids at their age have short attention time thus, it is best to buy toys which are brightly colored and makes sounds to make them play with it again. Also choose toys that can help your child develop their physical, mental and emotional skills. This article will give you ideas on what toys are good for your 1-year old.

One of the great toys for children one year of age are push toys. Most of these toys have long handles and has balls or wheels at the tip which rolls when it is pushed.
Every one who has a child in their life will no doubt have had that moment when they feel they have lost all control when that toddler throws a killer tantrum, when you wonder what ever happened to the good parenting skills you thought you had only a few minutes earlier.

The good news is that if your toddler is throwing tantrums, they are normal. Equally, if you feel as though you are struggling to deal with these tantrums as a parent, this too is normal.

None of us are born automatically with good parenting skills and only through advice, guidance and trial and error will we ever truly have all the parenting skills for toddlers discipline that we need to survive.

So, what Parenting Tip Toddlers Discipline skills do you need in order to handle these tantrums?

Well, obviously you are going to need patience – and lots of it. To keep tantrums from escalating and eventually from occurring at all you will need to ensure that you apply your rules consistently.

This is easier said than done, especially when you have had a hard day at work and this is the third tantrum of the day. But giving in to your child’s demands will only lead to a slippery slope that is extremely difficult to escape from.

When your child is in the full throes of a tantrum, you need to stand back, ensure that they are not in any danger and ride out the storm. When your child’s tantrum is over, cuddle them.

If your child’s tantrum is likely to go on for a while yet, hold them in a tight cuddle. This should allow them to remain safe and show your love also.

As Theresea Hughes of Free Toddlers Activity and Discipline Guide website suggests, “Good parenting skills are actually developed from such incidents and the only way to improve your positive toddler discipline skills is to actually deal with these tantrums and get the practice to learn what works best with your toddler.”

Being observant to your child is a great way to spot when the tantrums are about to take hold. It will also aid all of your parenting tip toddlers discipline skills. Sometimes it is easy to miss clues and signals as to what is going to set your child off.

Keeping a diary of what lead up to these toddler tantrums is a fantastic way to help you recognize any potential trouble areas.

Don’t, however, try to avoid these situations. This is just prolonging the inevitable. Instead, keep your expectations consistent and eventually your child will realize that tantrums are pointless over this.

Along with patience, the other parenting tip toddlers discipline skill that you will need to ensure you get the best from your child is to put yourself into their place. This is obviously quite difficult to do as since we are adults we already know what is dangerous and we understand why we are unable to get certain things we want when we want them.

But a toddler does not yet have the ability to understand any of those things and you are not able to just use logic or to talk reason with them.

So don’t try to. You are the final law on what your child does or does not get and they have to understand this. My best parenting tip toddlers discipline lesson for you to always remember is to never negotiate with a toddler!

Finally, remember that toddlers will have tantrums, it is not only your child that does this and you are not the only person to suffer the under the strain.

Instead realize that this is just a phase – or at least it will be if you follow these simple tips and employ the good parenting skills mentioned here.
